Cleaning Meder Canyon | Print |  E-mail

The city of Santa Cruz is planning to clear Arroyo Seco Creek from Mission Street to Meder starting August 11, including the removal of 60 trees, a handful of which are eucalyptus. According to a release from the public works department, the creek bed provides emergency and maintenance access to a sewer pipeline that runs along the creek for approximately a mile, and the creek has not been cleared for too long, causing the water to be diverted into the access road and washing its gravel downstream.

"Three creek culverts will be replaced, and the eroded portion of the access road will be rebuilt and paved," the release says. "Disturbed areas including the creek banks will be seeded and willows will be replanted along the creek." The work is expected to be completed by September.
