A court ordered that the Pajaro Valley Water Management Agency (PVWMA) illegally collected charges between the years 2003 and 2007, and now it's time for the refunds. While people in South County who paid the agency directly may make a claim for a refund of anything paid in excess of $80 an acre foot during those years at www.pvwma.dst.ca.us , the agency is making the process easier by sending out pre-calculated forms to any ratepayers on its books. Because it can be difficult for payers to figure out the overage (and in some cases, with complicated farm leases, even who's due the refund), PVWMA has used its backlog of scanned checks to do the job itself. Ratepayers who agree can just return the form, signed, and money will follow. The deadine for making any claims or disputes is April 22, 2009.
