The Tour of California will be stopping in Santa Cruz next February for the first time since its inception in 2005. Stage three of the nine-day, 800-mile race will begin in Saualito and wind up in Santa Cruz on February 16, 2009. Details of the route are yet to be announced. The tour is one of the largest professional cycling events in the United States, attracting teams and riders from all over the world. It begins in Sacramento and will proceed to Escondido in San Diego County. The race has been expanded by one day for 2009, allowing it to incorporate several new host cities including Santa Cruz.
