The Spring Dog Festival is a community celebration of dogs in our lives. Filled with contests, interactive sports, demos, booths and our surf dog photo booth, the festival is fun-filled. Proceeds go to dog-oriented charities involved with projects like literacy, low cost spay and neuter, blankets for rescue dogs, humane education, shelter dog enrichment and more.

Note: Dogs are currently allowed in Downtown Santa Cruz if they are licensed and leashed within 3 feet of their handler, not in the presence of more than one other dog. They are not allowed at night and their waste must be cleaned up.

Although leashes are highly recommended on site, The Bay Front Inn is merely minutes away from the off-leash dog beach on Westcliff! There is a $25 pet fee for the first night (it is a flat rate for however many pets you have), with an additional $5 each day afterwards. There is also a small pet area on the property equipped with a doggie bag dispenser; ideal for exercising and lounging with your pooch!

Chaminade Resort and Spa
This high-end resort mostly accepts small dogs and there is a $75.00 daily fee per pooch. They must stay on leashes throughout the property, but there is a lovely lawn for owners to walk their dogs, in addition to a separate building for guests with pets. Guests receive a welcome-gift of dog treats for their pets during check-in, and are able to dine out on the terrace and patio with their dog. Water bowls are provided, in addition to treats!

Something to woof home about: SVDP’s doggie pools (made out of plastic) and its very busy, friendly atmosphere. Also, your pooch can pick on someone its own size, since there are two play areas: one for smaller dogs and one for larger ones.
In the doghouse: watch out for dirty paws before the car ride home—lots of dirt here.

Something to woof home about: tons of areas to sit in the shade, on the side for small dogs. Pinto Lake Park is on-site as well—truly a sight for sore eyes!
In the doghouse: the big-dog side is not as verdant, there are not too many opportunities for man’s best friend to make friends—not a very busy park, and there are a lack of signs.

Franich Dog Park

Something to woof home about: safe and sound for your hound—located near Ann Soldo Elementary, with two sides according to dog size and water sources.
In the doghouse: if you and/or your pet suffer from claustrophobia, you may not be a fan of the fences.

DeLaveaga Park

Something to woof home about: Designated off-leash times are sunrise to sunset located from the service road gate to the end of the sand pit service trail into Lower DeLaveaga Park. Self serve doggie bag station can be found available. Come and enjoy a fun hike through this beautiful park.
In the doghouse: There are designated off-leash areas, the rest of the park requrests that dogs stay on a leash. This park is also more of a hiking trail with trees than an actual park.

Grant Street Park

In the doghouse: This park has nice features such as a nice playground for kids but unfortunately has a reputation for being a little less nice than the other parks.

Oceanview Park

Something to woof about: Designated off leash times are from sunrise to sunset located at both ends of the large turf area (clearly marked). Self serve doggie bag station available. This is a very family oriented park located in a nice neighborhood.
In the doghouse: Parking is limited to the street.

University Terrace Park:

Something to woof about: Designated off leash times are sunrise to sunset located at the second entrance at obel Drie and Meder Street. Self-serve dog bag station available. This is a clean park good for the whole family!
In the doghouse: This park is mostly fenced off. If you are not a fan of fences, this is not the park for you.

Pacheco Dog Park

Something to woof about: Designated off leash times are sunrise ot sunset Located at Pacheco Avenue and Prospect Heights. Self-serve doggie bag station available.
In the doghouse: This is a small park that is completely fenced off.

Floral Park
38th Street near East Cliff
This is not an official dog park but is set up to entertain pooches with a fence separating the grass from the street and children's play area.  As a bonus you can easily walk along the new Pleasure Point promenade before or after throwing the ball.

Davenport Beach
This beautiful beach is surrounded by high bluffs and cliff trails. Leashes are required. To get to the beach from Santa Cruz, head north on Hwy 1 for about 10 miles. INFO: Hwy 1

Mitchell’s Cove Beach

Twin Lakes State Beach
Dogs are allowed on leash. This beach is most popular for swimming and picnicking, Due to its location at the entrance of Schwann Lake, this beach is one of the area's warmest beaches.  Schwann Lake has been known to be a good place for bird watching.
