April 19 - May 12 Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 pm and 9:20 pm Saturday and Sunday Matinees at 2:00 pm and 3:20 pm Cabrillo Black Box Theater Ticketing options: - Single performance tickets: $10, $7 Cabrillo SAC holders - Two different performances: $18 general, $12 Cabrillo SAC holders (available at the Box Office only) - Group rates: $80 (10 tickets to the same show, available at the Box Office only) - Membership Pass: $50 (choice of 9 different shows, individually ticketed) To purchase SAC card holder packages and group rates, please visit or call the box office at 831-479-6154. Cabrillo Theater Arts Department presents a festival of plays, storytelling and improv from the local theatre community in collaboration with Cabrillo students. The Cabrillo Theatre Festival presents nine different shows, each performing multiple times through May 12. Co-artistic directors Sarah Albertson and Donald Grube. The festival will include: - Friends of Gus presents "Eleanora Duse Dies in Pittsburgh" by Don Nigro, directed by Robin Aronson - Lampshade Productions presents "Handy Dandy" by William Gibson, directed by Scott Kravitz - "Believe It Or Not," storytelling written and performed by Erica Lann-Clark and Olga Loya - SEETheatre presents "Turn of the Screw" by Jeffrey Hatcher from story by Henry James, directed by Ryan Spencer - Van Antwerp Theatre Company presents "Blackbird" by David Harrower, directed by Joan Van Antwerp - "Death," by Woody Allen, directed by Adam Stanton - Improv Troupe UM GEE UM - Rainbow Theatre Company presents "Breath Boom" by Kia Corthron, directed by Karmina Mendez and Dondre Coleman - SideReal Theatre Company presents "A Contemporary American's Guide to a Successful Marriage, circa 1959" by Robert Bastron, directed by Davis Banta

Mercury Enters Libra

It’s the week of Burning Man, the temporary, intentional, alternative, art-filled community on the playas of Nevada. Mercury, messenger of the Sun, enters Libra this week. Libra is the equalizer, a sign of balance and right human relations. Sometimes with Libra, we can be indecisive and confused while learning how to make balanced and right choices.     Best of Santa Cruz County

    The 2013 Santa Cruz County Readers' Poll and Critics’ Picks It’s our biggest issue of the year, and in it, your votes—more than 6,500 of them—determined the winners of The Best of Santa Cruz County Readers’ Poll. New to the long list of local restaurants, shops and other notables that captured your interest: Best Beer Selection, Best Locally Owned Business, Best Customer Service and Best Marijuana Dispensary. In the meantime, many readers were ever so chatty online about potential new categories. Some of the suggestions that stood out: Best Teen Program and Best Web Design/Designer. But what about: Dog Park, Church, Hotel, Local Farm, Therapist (I second that!) or Sports Bar—not to be confused with Bra. Our favorite suggestion: Best Act of Kindness—one reader noted Café Gratitude and the free meals it offered to the Santa Cruz Police Department in the aftermath of recent crimes. Perhaps some of these can be woven into next year’s ballot, so stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy the following pages and take note of our Critics’ Picks, too, beginning on page 91.
