Please join us for our upcoming Driftwood Consort show! "Galanterie" (Consert 1) May 19th, 3:00pm. St. John's Episcopal Church (Aptos) "Galanterie" features a program of elegant, late 18th century selections that span the aesthetic arc from baroque luminary Johann Sebastian Bach to that great pioneer of the classical era, Joseph Haydn. As Bach senior's intricate ("baroque") style of writing began to fall out of favor, younger composers responded with a new trend towards fluid melodies and ornamentation, paving the path the the translucent classical style. We will ride the tide of that time. Starting with Bach and ending with Haydn, this program highlights "galant" works by Bach's two younger sons, a trio by Graf, and famous London gambist Abel. Performing are Lars Johannesson and Alissa Roedig (18th century wooden flutes), Amy Brodo (cello and viola da gamba), and Jonathan Rhodes Lee (harpsichord). Driftwood Consort is an ensemble with a passion for performing music from the Renaissance through Romantic period on period instruments. Under the artistic direction of Lars Johannesson and Alissa Roedig, the ensemble brings together musicians from the greater Bay Area who play with groups ranging from Monterey to Berkeley and beyond.
