“DURBIN DAY” videos

durbin_armsupSSanta Cruz, CA. James Durbin’s rock 'n' roll Cinderella story had a happy ending under a sunny sky on the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Saturday. In what has turned out to be a rallying force in Santa Cruz and for many around the world Durbin’s rising star made an appearance in our hometown thanks to the efforts of Beach Boardwalk and city officials.

Thousands waited and just as the weather cleared, his parade rounded the corner rolling triumphantly down Beach Street.

Proudly wearing a leather vest emblazoned with big red letters reading, “Give Metal a Chance,” James greeted his admirers with a big wave and a smile.

James and his fiancée Heidi climbed aboard a lifeguard truck for a second parade across the sand where fans got an up-close look at their Idol as he made his way to the bandstand.

For his final song James belted out the Journey favorite "Don’t Stop Believing" driving the crowd into a frenzy of cheers.

durbin_starisbornDurbin's star has risen over unlikely odds bringing the world an entertainer who delivers a good show and inspires all to follow our bliss in spite of our challenges.

Original Durbin Day press release . . . . .

American Idol Makes Rare Exception to Allow James Durbin to Return Home
SANTA CRUZ, Calif.: In an unexpected turn of events, James Durbin will be returning to Santa Cruz this Saturday, May 14 for a homecoming celebration. Some details of the day are still tentative, but the primary activities—a visit to the Louden Nelson Center, a procession to the beach, and a concert at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk—will go on as planned.

“Originally, American Idol indicated that Durbin's return to Santa Cruz for Durbin Day depended on him making it to the final three because of obligations to the show,” said Kris Reyes, community relations director for the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. “After the results last night, we made a strong appeal to the show that he be allowed to attend his Santa Cruz homecoming as planned. Idol ultimately agreed,” he said.

The entire Santa Cruz community including organizers at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, city of Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County Conference & Visitors Council and the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce were united in their strong support and admiration for Durbin's accomplishments.

“Our community is extremely proud of James, ” said Santa Cruz Mayor Ryan Coonerty. “And we’re excited that American Idol made this exception to allow him to return home to a big Santa Cruz welcome,” he said.

Durbin's connection to Santa Cruz has been felt worldwide. This morning, calls and emails flooded into the Santa Cruz County Conference & Visitors Council, Santa Cruz City Hall, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, and Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce offices from Durbin fans as far away as Singapore who were disappointed with last night’s results.

“We are pleased that fans, both locally and from far away, will have the chance to celebrate with us tomorrow during James’ visit to Santa Cruz,” said Maggie Ivy, Santa Cruz County Conference & Visitors Council CEO.

Pictures of James return to Santa Cruz on Kathy and Regis show

It really doesnt matter if American Idol shows the pictures of James return or not. On the Regis and Kathy show this morning after James sang they showed a couple of pictures of the crowd that welcome James at the boardwalk. Way to Go

All fans of James want to thank Santa Cruz for making this all possible and showing America just how big James is and will be in his career. Just because he was voted off American Idol doesnt mean he isnt......Fame isnt winning its in how many people buy his records and if that will be any indication I'm sure he will sell millions and set records for attendance at concerts.

Good Luck James you are amazing and a great person the best to you in your career

Fantastic! James has been an inspiration on many fronts over the past few months. His appearance on American Idol has enabled those of us at a distance (Nova Scotia, Canada) to be awed and blessed by such talent, and overwhelmingly , compassionate heart. Each of his performances, without fail, made me weep. His whole being consistently brought an experience of euphoria that none of the arts has been able to achieve on such a consistent basis, in my lifetime!! James will continue to thrill audiences worldwide, especially now that he has become so well known. ...unending thanks to those who are making his homecoming a celebration that he well deserves!!

A Ritual & Initiation

The Pope has come and gone, but his loving presence ignited new hope and goodness in many. While he was in NYC, China’s ruler arrived in Washington D.C. East (China) and West (Rome), meeting in the middle, under Libra, balancing sign of Right Relations. The Pope arrived at Fall Equinox. Things initiated at Fall Equinox are birthed at Winter Solstice. The Pope’s presence was a ritual, an initiation rite—like the Dalai Lama’s visits—offering prayers, teachings and blessings. Rituals anchor God’s plan into the world, initiating us to new realities, new rules. The Pope’s presence brings forth the Soul of the United States, its light piercing the veils of materialism. The Pope’s visit changed things. New questions arise, new reasons for living. A new wave of emerging life fills the air. Like a cocoon shifting, wings becoming visible. The winds are different now. Calling us to higher vision, moral values, virtues that reaffirm and offer hope for humanity. A changing of the guard has occurred. Appropriately, this is the week of the Jewish Festival of Sukkoth (’til Oct. 4), when we build temporary homes (little huts in nature), entering into a harvest of prayer and thanksgiving, understanding our fragile and impermanent existences. We are summoned to reflect upon our lives, our humanity, our nature, our spirit and each other. Offering gratitude, becoming a magnet for others. We observe. We see the needs. We love more.
