Aptos Village Skin and Body Care

blog aptoskinVariety of services and professional etiquette help make this place a haven

We lead busy lives. And while we might already know that it’s best to find the right balance between work and play, we often overlook another important aspect to creating harmony between the mind and body: nurturing. As in, taking care of your skin and body in ways that go beyond basic maintenance. I’m talking about really taking care of yourself.

That’s where Patty Yarr comes in. As a licensed esthetician for 22 years, Yarr has absorbed a great deal of knowledge about skin and body health. During the last 10 years, she’s been at the helm of Aptos Village Skin and Body Care, a unique sanctuary nestled in the most picturesque part of Aptos. Many things shine here but mostly, it’s Yarr’s commitment to great customer care and offering an impressive line of skin care products—it’s one of the reasons she hit our radar in our annual health issue. (See GT’s 2/23 cover story.)

So when I asked Yarr about some of the misconceptions people may have about skin and body care, she quickly noted that, “people think it’s an indulgence when really it’s a necessity. It does stave off old age. We can look younger than our years in every aspect—body and face. If you have treatments on you skin for an hour at a time, which you would never do at home, it’s not only good for your body, but great for your mind.”

Yarr also has three massage therapists on call at Aptos Village Skin and Body Care. Fans of aromatherapy will be happy here, but the Deep Tissue Massage (45 or 90 minutes) stands out. Take note of the “Quick Fix” ($110), which lasts 90 minutes and includes a 45-minute aromatherapy massage and a 45-minute facial.

Other body-care services here are downright unique—a 45-minute Body Polish ($70) caught our eye; so did the Back Facial ($65), which targets the oft overlooked, perhaps neglected part of our body. (Think about it: when was the last time you really tended to you skin on your back?) Writers like myself—or anybody using a computer these days—may appreciate the 20-minute Rejuvenation Hand massage/hydrator. At $25, it’s a great deal. And there are number of other services, too, ranging form waxing to make-up.

On that note, one of the most rewarding specials Yarr offers may be for brides—she’ll do a bride’s make-up for free if a bridal party of four or more are also receiving services. (She also offers a free make-up application, in general.)

An interesting tidbit: Yarr has been using Tu’el skin care products for some time. She recommends the Hydrate moisture gel.

“It’s like a drink of water for your skin,” she notes.

I love Patty! I started going to her when I first moved to California, and even though I live much farther away from Aptos now, I still continue to go to Aptos Village Skin and Body because she is simply the best!
