Win It and Wear It

blog_beauty1Last week we launched our weekly Win It and Wear It Contest, based on the tremendous success of this year’s Fashion Issue with GT.

The contest ended on Aug. 24 and the winners are:
August Mae Ring: Zeyna
Manu panties: Diane

Our NEW CONTEST STARTS TODAY, and ends Sept. 1
The new prizes are:
blog_fashion1** Hand-made necklace from Stripe (see photo).
** Facial and gift from Beauty 360, Santa Cruz.

All you have to do is leave a comment here at this blog and tell us about something you’re obsessed with in fashion. Then, check back in a week to find out if you're a winner. And in the meantime, keep reading Obsessive Beauty in between, to discover the latest in beauty and fashion.

Stripe, a Downtown Santa Cruz retailer (reminiscent of Anthropologie) is a popular shopping destination where fashionistas can find hand-made jewelry like the necklace shown here, leather goods by Nuala, and clothing by Lex Designs, as well as bath products, children’s goods, and much more.

Think of Beauty 360 as an alternative to Sephora, with more hands-on service, and the friendliest staff you’ll meet. The Santa Cruz location is next door to the CVS on Mission Street, and the store boasts lines like the celebrity favorite Mario Badescu, and many others.

Lately I've been obsessed with repurposed jewelry. I love to see the personality of the artist come through when they put together vintage bits and pieces. Fashion to me is about expressing your unique style and I feel jewelry is a great way to do it. BTW I love the store Stripe and feel right at home when I walk through the door. They have many wonderful artist showcased there and one day I hope to be one of them! Thanks for the opportunity to dream...

With the season change around the corner, I have been looking for ways to spruce up my fall/winter wardrobe by adding new accessories to not so new basics. Specifically, scarves and hats. A simple addition of a scarf can add so much color and life to a basic outfit. A hat, well, for me, it's about something bright and cheery to look cute even in the rain!

I love to create something that was once a throw away and bring it back to life. Retro to chic and much more! Hopefully that will catch on more and we can all bring styles back that were once forgotten.....smilies/smiley.gif Love the necklace.

Wow! Thanks for these giveaways!

Lately I've been obsessed with belts...not just in the belt loops, but getting creative making my flowy dress more a line by putting a belt higher up top or turning my blouse into a mini over leggings.

I've most recently become obsessed with accesorizing. Accesories can take a simple, but classic outfit and turn it into something a little edgy or fun and pull everything together. I count shoes as an accesory because they really can make or break the outfit. When I visit Santa Cruz, visiting Stripe will be a have to.

What I love and am obsessed about fashion is recycling and being green. I love to buy used clothing and gloat about the awesome price I paid! I also am obsessed with chams like the necklesses pictured about, they are so classic and timeless! I love it!
Enjoying this blog

Santa Cruz Gives

A look at the organizations we’re asking you to support in our new holiday giving campaign

Gratitude—For Each New Morning With its Light

The full moon of Wednesday brings light to Thanksgiving (Thursday) under the Sagittarius Sun and Mercury. Mercury in Sag offers humanity the message (Mercury) of thankfulness and joy (Jupiter). No other sign represents food, music and joy better than Sagittarius (only Pisces, when not in despair). Beginning on Thanksgiving, we can list what we’re grateful for. Then we can continue the list, creating a daily Gratitude Journal. What we are grateful for always increases in our lives. On Thanksgiving Saturn/Neptune square (challenging) is in full effect. This can manifest as traditions not being honored, disappearing, falling away. It can also create a sense of sadness, confusion, of things not working out as planned. It’s best to be as simple as possible. And to focus on gratitude instead. Gratitude is a service to others. It is scientifically and occultly a releasing agent. Releasing us from the past, allowing our future—the new culture and civilization, the new Aquarian laws and principles, the rising light of Aquarius, the Age of Friendship and Equality—to come forth. Gratitude and goodwill create the “thought-form of solution for humanity and the world’s problems.” The hierarchy lays great emphasis upon expressing gratitude. Gratitude illuminates all that is in darkness. Let us be grateful during this season together. Being, for others, the light that illuminates the darkness. A Poem by R.W. Emerson: We are grateful … “For each new morning with its light/For rest and shelter of the night/For health and food/For love and friends/For everything thy goodness sends.” (poem by R.W. Emerson). I am grateful for my family of readers.
