Lunar Nodes, Dragon’s Head and Tail, Change Signs

Lunar Nodes, Dragon’s Head and Tail, Change Signs

In every astrology chart (individual, country, nation, event, etc.) there are two symbols (mathematical points signifying the relationship between the Sun, Moon and Earth) that look like headphones. These are the lunar or Moon’s North and South nodes or in Vedic astrology, the Dragon’s Head (Rahu) and Tail (Ketu).  The North node signifies the present/future dharma and the South node past abilities, people we knew and responsibilities that need gathering, tending and completing.

Burning Man Under the Silvery Full Moon

Burning Man Under the Silvery Full Moon

During Friday’s full moon, Virgo’s (9 degrees) solar festival, Burning May is in full swing in the Nevada desert. In the sky the nodes of the moon (North and South Nodes) change signs. The north node (our present/future dharma) shifts into Scorpio, and the South node (past which needs tending, completing, the Dweller on the Threshold) enters Taurus. For 18 months we move into a state of reorientation, learning to stabilize ourselves through that reorientation.

We All Become Scorpios

We All Become Scorpios

On Thursday, Mars enters Scorpio; sign of discipleship and of reorientation (into higher regions) for humanity—Hercules, who, through overcoming our Twelve Labors (signs) becomes the world disciple. With Mars in Scorpio we all become very serious personalities, with intense wants, desires and aspirations.

Venus in Cancer—Overshadowing

Venus in Cancer—Overshadowing

This is our last week of Leo. The Sun enters Virgo Wednesday. The month is overshadowed by Venus in the sign of Cancer. Venus is the Soul (star) of the Earth, where our God (Sanat Kumara) came from and these mornings Venus is the Morning Star. Mars is always in the news these days. But Mars is humanity’s past. Venus is our future. Returning to Mars is a retrograde action.

The Great Awakening Proceeds

The Great Awakening Proceeds

New energies and impulses from the heart of the Universe are beginning to critically influence life on Earth (and on all the planets circling the Sun). These energies are accelerating all events, creating a trajectory of force and of progress directed only toward the creation of the new age.

Leo—Lionhearted and Royal

Leo—Lionhearted and Royal

Happy Birthday, leo. Leo is the sign of friendship and fun, of children, games and self-identity through what one creates. Leo’s hair is a mane rising up from regal high forehead. The lion appears on the arms (logo) of many royal houses. Richard the Lionhearted re-captured the Holy Land.

The Retro, Meteors & the Full Moon

The Retro, Meteors & the Full Moon

Mercury retrograde is in full force. Reaching outward, we’re pulled inward. Unable to maintain “business as usual” for multiple reasons (the retrograde, solar activity/flares altering our electromagnetic field, proton streams of positive ions, the planetary shifts, Uranus/Pluto, the old reality attempting to override the new, etc.), some of us feel paralyzed with tiredness, exhausted from pain, weary with busyness, longing to slow down, rest a while, contemplate individual realities, ideas and perceptions. Instead, we experience disruptive change, things upside- down, and wonder where we’ll find the resiliency to maintain our balance.

Mars Enters Scorpio: The Nine Tests

Over the years I’ve mentioned the nine tests of Mars and Scorpio. The tests are given to everyone—unawakened, beginning to awaken, and the awakened. The purpose is to test our strength, courage, ability to adapt, discriminate and have discernment. To see if we are deceived by illusion or are “warriors triumphant, emerging from the battle.”

Best of Santa Cruz County

The 2013 Santa Cruz County Readers' Poll and Critics’ Picks It’s our biggest issue of the year, and in it, your votes—more than 6,500 of them—determined the winners of The Best of Santa Cruz County Readers’ Poll. New to the long list of local restaurants, shops and other notables that captured your interest: Best Beer Selection, Best Locally Owned Business, Best Customer Service and Best Marijuana Dispensary. In the meantime, many readers were ever so chatty online about potential new categories. Some of the suggestions that stood out: Best Teen Program and Best Web Design/Designer. But what about: Dog Park, Church, Hotel, Local Farm, Therapist (I second that!) or Sports Bar—not to be confused with Bra. Our favorite suggestion: Best Act of Kindness—one reader noted Café Gratitude and the free meals it offered to the Santa Cruz Police Department in the aftermath of recent crimes. Perhaps some of these can be woven into next year’s ballot, so stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy the following pages and take note of our Critics’ Picks, too, beginning on page 91. A big thanks for voting—and for reading—and an even bigger congratulations to all of the winners. Enjoy.  -Greg Archer, EditorBest of Santa Cruz County Readers’ Poll INDEX
