Venus Retrograde – Values, Resources, Money Re-Evaluated

RisaNewSFriday, Venus, the brilliant yellow-white star Morning Star, retrogrades in Scorpio (13 degrees) till Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010 (27:44 Libra). Venus retrogrades every 584 days (19 months) making five retrograde points around the Sun. After eight years, Venus forms a five-pointed star in the sky. Esoterically, the five-pointed star represents the Soul. Everyone has a Soul, suspended six inches above our heads. It waits for us to awaken. Venus influences money, possessions, values and relationships (lovers & friends). Scorpio represents things held in common (world resources). When planets retrograde we turn inward, the past reappears, decisions are delayed, plans set aside for the purpose of assessment and all areas associated with the retrograde must be reviewed in order to either renew, revitalize, find new value, or place them aside forever. Scorpio is the sign of transformation, regeneration after a death (physical and/or metaphorical) has taken place. Scorpio reorients us from things in matter (from solar plexus) to a more spiritual focus (to the heart), creating a sense of responsibility toward the needs of humanity, as we build the new culture and civilization based upon the new Aquarian principles. We bring forth into form and matter our part and work into the world, carrying out our part with skill. Venus calls us to unite heart and mind. Scorpio calls us to Discipleship. Esoteric Astrology as News for the week of Oct. 7–Oct. 13, 2010 For Sun and Rising Signs

ariesAries-March 21–April 20
You may struggle mentally to maintain equilibrium between desires and what is actually possible. It’s good to study the subject of sacrifice—the first Law of the Soul. At the center of sacrifice is Love, a paradox. Love and sacrifice are the same. We’re on Earth because we sacrificed to be here. You may feel that you’ve become the warrior. You have. Spiritual warriors are always triumphant. You may struggle mentally to maintain equilibrium between desires and what is actually possible. taurusTaurus
April 21–May 21
You assess all relationships in terms of value. Something you always do, but more so. Simultaneously, it’s most important to assess the values you offer and if there is more you can give of Right Relations through intentions for Goodwill. You offer the goodness of yourself in relationships. Goodness is a purity and inner quality. What is your goodness and what do you offer others? Include all relationships. Remember true love isn’t a feeling.

geminiGemini
May 22–June 20
Tend to all things great, small and necessary in daily life with deepest attention. Observe all habits, agendas, and how you serve yourself, your work, your environments and all others in your worlds. We evolve step-by-step, beginning with tending to our physical, then emotional, then mental bodies. Then we progress to the Soul. Each day “brood upon the service for the coming day. Do this as the Soul.” The emotions are then calmed.

cancerCancer
June 21–July 20
You reassess goals and aspirations the next two months. The Earth (soil, trees, plants) is very important for your well-being. Make sure you’re out and about in the Sun and the nature kingdom—the most balanced kingdom. Its radiations strengthen your heart and mind, refocus your enthusiasm (“filled with God”), allowing calm practicality to emerge. You live the life of ideals. It’s time for those potentials to enter form and matter.

leoLeo
July 21–August 22
Ponder upon how you want to be seen, known and recognized in the world and in the context of helping to build the new culture and civilization—your work now. You are to nurture the new era at its foundational stages because you are a leader. Begin your garden soon, have a worm bin, create biodynamic soil, save seeds. Then teach everyone your discoveries. Leo’s nurturance needs to move from self to the community called humanity.

virgoVirgo
August 23–September 22
Past friends, relationships, values, siblings, family and past resources should be renewed. They are valuable for reasons revealed in the future. A certain group from the past, holds great Love/Wisdom (Ray 2, Gemini’s ray). They not only hold out to you technical possibilities but a way to enter into the life stream of humanity through study/understanding of the mysteries. You should be studying your transits/astrology.

libraLibra
September 23–October 22
In the next month your self as valuable will be considered. Perhaps this is difficult? If so make lists of all your gifts, abilities, kindnesses, good associations, good deeds, thoughts, ideas and plans. Here you will find your value. Place these lists on your walls to review them each day. This is the beginning of your self-identity as a server for humanity—the great tasks for all Aries in the Aquarian Age.

scorpioScorpio
October 23–November 21
Things go into hiding— especially you. Or you find someone else in hiding asking them for assistance. There’s actually someone very valuable to you. You must be in contact with them. They’re knowledgeable and have the skills needed for your next creative stages and for humanity’s future. Money, too, is hidden at this time. It’s still available, however you must call it forth and use it to help others.

saggSagittarius
November 22–December 20
Life becomes subtler, slightly different, deep feelings of compassion awaken. Tend to debts; give (tithe) to charity. Some examples of giving to those in need: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital; Catholic Charities; Doctors Without Borders; UNESCO; The Red Cross. These are difficult financial times. However the spiritual law is what we give is returned tenfold. When we serve others our life is spiritually cared for. The 3rd Law of the Soul is Service.

capricornCapricorn
December 21–January 20
Things seem crazy at times, moving toward out of control. Eliminate all not absolutely necessary. A complete new identity is making itself apparent. This identity is yourself and you must begin the necessary changes lest the river of life float you downstream without a lifeboat. You also must each day with intention help bring in the new culture and civilization. What interests you about this? Think deeply on these things.

aquariusAquarius
January 21–February 18
You see the need for nourishment of self and others, realizing one source of nourishment is financial security. Let’s discuss how security looks in terms of a home and land? Visualize. Lay out each room, be as “green” as possible, see those you love living close by, include a workspace for yourself, for the arts and for preparing pure foods. Work daily on this. Should there be pain in

piscesPisces
February 19–March 20
A return to a previous, perhaps put-aside creative work allows you to redefine, reassess and reaffirm its importance to your life’s work. There’s a renewed fire in the mind, calling you to two things—amusement and a sense of play, much missed in your life for a long long while. And direct creative work that reflects who you are now, today, and will become. All parts of you sing within a close spiritual unity. Ohm.

Dancing In the Rain

District Attorney Bob Lee’s death in October stunned the Santa Cruz community, but he had battled cancer fiercely—and privately—for more than a decade. Now one of his closest friends reveals the remarkable inside story

Giving and Giving, Then Giving Some More

2014 is almost over. Wednesday, Dec. 17, the Jewish Festival of Light, Hanukkah, begins. We are in our last week of Sag and last two weeks of December. Sunday, Dec. 21 is winter Solstice, as the sun enters Capricorn (3:30 p.m. for the west coast). Soon after, the Capricorn new moon occurs (5:36 p.m. for the west coast)—the last new moon of 2014. Sunday morning Uranus in Aries (revolution, revelation) is stationary direct (retro since July 22). Uranus/Aries create things new and needed to anchor the new culture and civilization (Aquarius). We will see revolutionary change in 2015. Capricorn new moon, building-the-personality seed thought, is, “Let ambition rule and let the door to initiation and freedom stand wide (open).” Capricorn is a gate—where matter returns to spirit. But the gate is unseen until the Ajna Center (third eye), Diamond Light of Direction, opens. Winter solstice is the longest day of darkness of the year. The sun’s rays resting at the Tropic of Capricorn (southern hemisphere) symbolize the Christ (soul’s) light piercing the heart of the Earth, remaining there for three days, till Holy Night (midnight Thursday morning). Then the sun’s light begins to rise. It is the birth of the new light (holy child) for the world. A deep calm and stillness pervades the world. The entire planet is revivified, re-spiritualized. All hearts beating reflect this Light. And so throughout the Earth there’s a radiant “impress” (impressions, pictures) given to humanity of the World Mother and her Child. The star Sirius (love/direction) and the constellation Virgo the mother shines above. For gift giving, give to those in need. Give and give and then give some more. This creates the new template of giving and sharing for the new world.

A look back at the year in good taste

What downtown business is good for both one-stop shopping and last-minute gifts?

The Homeless Garden Project store. Because it is a community effort and has really useful and beautiful things, and allows you to connect with a lot of folks who are doing great work in Santa Cruz. Miriam Greenberg, Santa Cruz, UCSC Professor

Vino Tabi Winery

One of Santa Cruz’s most happening areas to go wine tasting is in the westside’s Swift Street Courtyard complex. Ever since a group of about a dozen wineries got together and formed Surf City Vintners (SCV), the place has been a hive of activity, and a wine-tasting mecca. Adding to the mix is the lively Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing beer company—making Swift Street Courtyard a perfect spot for a glass of wine or a pitcher of ale.
