Money Standard, Values & Principles, Scorpio & United Nations Day

RisaNewSWhat were the results of Santa Cruz’s meeting on alternative currency? During Venus (money) retrograde in Scorpio (everyone’s), money is at the forefront. Therefore we need to follow the worldwide economy, learn about the different currency wars. The dollar’s losing ground daily. The G20 meets November in Korea. There’s talk of a new money standard, no longer the dollar, the creation of one world currency. These are exciting times, with revolution a probability. Even if we don’t understand economics and finances, we must try and follow as best we can. Revolution only comes after everyone’s truthfully informed. Two Scorpio events this week—Full moon (Friday) Scorpio/Taurus, and Sun entering Scorpio (Saturday).

Thursday we seriously tend to tasks while experiencing a  certain sadness, choosing time and energy efficiency lest we fall down into a narrow state of discouragement. At first we’re lifted up only to plummet earthward with a practical jolt. Let’s focus these unpredictable energies by consciously preparing for Friday evening’s full moon, (last degree, 29:33 Scorpio/Libra, 6:38 p.m., Pacific time).

Join us, the New Group of World Servers, in meditation at the full moon by reciting the Soul and Great Invocations together. Saturday, Sun enters Scorpio, sign of Discipleship, the Nine Tests (from Mars), deep waters of mystery and intrigue. Sunday is the United Nations 65th birthday. The UN was built on spiritual principles and universal values—peace, human rights, human dignity, human worth, justice, respect, good neighborliness, and freedom. The UN leaders today use these spiritual principles and values as their guide. Perhaps we too can begin to use them to guide.

Esoteric Astrology as News for the week of Oct. 21–Oct. 27, 2010 For Sun and Rising Signs

ariesAries-March 21–April 20
Be prepared for a feeling of testing, a continual sense of being watched, graded, guided and being prepared for further responsibility, especially in terms of tending to others’ finances and resources. Intimacy may be an issue, either you seek or reject it. You need to study the Ancient Mysteries (the foundations being astrology). Your questions are answered there.

taurusTaurus
April 21–May 21
You seek more than usual depth in relationship. Or you become silent and secretive, seeking your own counsel, seeking intimacy of spirit, following your own needs without considering the other. It’s best though to communicate with loved ones, informing them of your inner thoughts, hopes, wishes so you can work together more efficiently. You think there’s no money. It’s all around you.

geminiGemini
May 22–June 20
As your mind works overtime, you realize lots of work, at first not obvious, must be accomplished. If you look in corners, closets, under, over and above, in garages, storage units, your car(s), you’ll discover what needs to be eliminated so transformation can come about. There’s special work to do with relationships, children, small animals and gardens, all needing play, color, communication, new intentions, and a re-commitment (from you).

cancerCancer
June 21–July 20
You feel worried and anxious about family members, concerned about their choices, abilities, resources, lives. There may be a family member in a state of transition. You worry about someone female, perhaps a daughter, mother, sister. You know at a moment’s notice you’ll travel anywhere to help. In the meantime, bake sugar cookies, pies, breads, dumplings and casseroles. You need soothing and gardening.

leoLeo
July 21–August 22
You need to head over to Cancer’s home and eat. Then you need respite from the extreme amounts of work you’re encountering. Sometimes you don’t know why you’re doing this work. It seems you need more art, whether it’s yours or another’s. Relationships are either nebulous or too strict for words. Something usually hidden at home becomes illumined.

virgoVirgo
August 23–September 22
With Mercury, your personal messenger, traveling through a trinity of signs, your mind must be extremely active, focusing first on your self needs, then on relationships then a perceptive intensification and depth occurs. As your words become very serious, almost mysterious, you become internal to allow all parts of yourself to cooperate, ruminate and become intimate with the truth.

libraLibra
September 23–October 22
Your New Year has begun, Libra (Sun, rising signs). Do focus upon your values, past, present, future, all issuing forth from self-awareness the needs of humanity. What’s most important is assessing your financial picture—how you use money, how your money supports family and those in need, and how money emotionally supports your way of life. For the next month appreciate all that you have, all people and things small and large. Love comes from gratitude.

scorpioScorpio
October 23–November 21
The veils are dropping between realities so humanity can see more expanded realities. You/we are to be anthropologists, keenly observing life and people. Observing with curiosity allows us to understand two polarities; what’s staged (unreal) to push the masses to rely on government energies that are spiritual in intent, and supporting the Forces of Light, building the new reality as the old is destroyed. You have this ability to discern.

saggSagittarius
November 22–December 20
You’ve been on a retreat from your usual daily life, plans, agendas and responsibilities. Did you eat well, take it easy, do personal research, work on private projects, ponder upon needs and the values that emerge from self-assessment. Also, a distance was created allowing you more perspective about how you’re living life, what pleases you, how to better be in relationships. You may meet someone soon. Prepare.

capricornCapricorn
December 21–January 20
Everything social calls. However, you don’t want to emerge into the world before assessing goals, hopes, wishes and priorities in terms of what you give others and how you’re perceived and given to in return. You are valuable. Others respect you even if unable to admit this. Often when greatness enters a group, there can be resistance. Why? People cannot absorb the Sun’s light streaming through great people. Focus on fun, less activity, less responsibility.

aquariusAquarius
January 21–February 18
Your creativity is vital at this time and apparent to the world. Notice how well you’re completing tasks and displaying special abilities. For the next month ponder upon what your work and career need for future success. This is a time of assessing these things on inner levels. It’s not a good time to initiate new plans, but to consider them. If you must move, ponder upon what your daily domestic needs are. Write them down.

piscesPisces
February 19–March 20
It could be that making contact with others doesn’t work. Making contact so love and understanding are released is important to you. However, others don’t often think like you. Compassion rules the life of Pisces. Everyone is not a Pisces. You must stand alone this month and next. Focus upon study, reading, art, music, ideas becoming ideals within you. Create on paper (color, ink, drawing, painting, sculpture, etc.) your next endeavor. Include several geodesic domes and the idea of the Commons.

Rosh Hashanah

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, occurs this year during Libra, the sign of creating right relations with all aspects life and with earth’s kingdoms. We contemplate (the Libra meditation) forgiveness, which means, “to give for another.” Forgiveness is not pardon. It’s a sacrifice (fire in the heart, giving from the heart). Forgiveness is giving up for the good of the other. This is the law of evolution (the path of return).

Best of Santa Cruz County

The 2013 Santa Cruz County Readers' Poll and Critics’ Picks It’s our biggest issue of the year, and in it, your votes—more than 6,500 of them—determined the winners of The Best of Santa Cruz County Readers’ Poll. New to the long list of local restaurants, shops and other notables that captured your interest: Best Beer Selection, Best Locally Owned Business, Best Customer Service and Best Marijuana Dispensary. In the meantime, many readers were ever so chatty online about potential new categories. Some of the suggestions that stood out: Best Teen Program and Best Web Design/Designer. But what about: Dog Park, Church, Hotel, Local Farm, Therapist (I second that!) or Sports Bar—not to be confused with Bra. Our favorite suggestion: Best Act of Kindness—one reader noted Café Gratitude and the free meals it offered to the Santa Cruz Police Department in the aftermath of recent crimes. Perhaps some of these can be woven into next year’s ballot, so stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy the following pages and take note of our Critics’ Picks, too, beginning on page 91. A big thanks for voting—and for reading—and an even bigger congratulations to all of the winners. Enjoy.  -Greg Archer, EditorBest of Santa Cruz County Readers’ Poll INDEX

Apricot Wine for Dessert

Thomas Kruse Winery, a participant in the new Santa Clara Wine Trail, has been around for a long time—since 1971, to be exact. When our little group arrived to try some wine at the Kruses’ low-key tasting room, Thomas Kruse and his wife Karen were there to greet us. Theirs is a small operation, and they’re proud to offer quality wine at affordable prices. “Because we are small and low-tech, it’s easy to relate to the whole winemaking process,” says Karen—and the Kruses take pride in making wine “just like it has been made for centuries.”
