Safeguarding Freedom

RisaNewSVenus (Ray 5 of Concrete & Scientific Knowledge, the Aquarian ray of Knowledge) is now our Morning (Dawn) Star. In Libra and retrograde (till the 18th), Venus calls forth, from the depths of each of us, loving intelligence justice, balance, equality and Right Relations, the first step toward Goodwill.

Thursday is Veterans Day. Let us actively honor those who have safeguarded freedom for humanity. The United States this week begins a series of difficult and transformative transits lasting into 2011. Friday, during Aquarius moon (the U.S. has Aquarius moon, 18 degrees), Saturn squares (90 degrees) the U.S. Sun. The moon in a country’s chart signifies its people. Squares challenge us to change direction. During the present Venus retrograde (in Libra) a change of direction must include a new economic structure within the U.S. and presented to the world. With Saturn square Sun there can be a sense of isolation, of being misunderstood while attempting new disciplines, organization and order. Saturn, the teacher, creates new regulations, direction, guidelines, parameters, bringing strict order out of chaos.
Saturday Mercury opposes Uranus in the U.S. chart. Mercury is communication, Uranus, a revolution of new ideas. From the U.S. we listen for (and help create) new ideas that bring us closer to a sustainable new culture and civilization. Sunday Jupiter begins to oppose the U.S. Neptune and next week the U.S. has a Saturn return. The stars and planets (their energies), reaching down into our daily lives, call us to participate in our own transformation, restoration, illumination and reconstruction.

Esoteric Astrology as News for the week of Nov. 11-17, 2010 For Sun and Rising Signs

ariesAries-March 21–April 20
Things unusual and otherworldly are occurring to Aries; avoiding large groups in order to maintain a comfort level allows you to continue with work unimpeded. If in too large a crowd confusion results. Safety of heart and mind become important. The most comfort now is through technology, the Internet, Facebook where like-minded others understand you. Aries is changing. Finding your true peers and your true voice.

taurusTaurus
April 21–May 21
Someone in particular is more prominent in your life these days and you communicate from your heart that you care. You are serious and low key. However your intentions are understood, received and reciprocated. This calms you and brings you to a state of balance, which has been needed by you for some months. Now you can continue with your world work.

geminiGemini
May 22–June 20
It’s time to reach out to those close by and far away, communicating with them your recent thoughts, hopes, plans and goals. You are to be like a great wind that in one day blows all the brown leaves off the trees and on that day everyone knows winter has begun. You are to communicate in such a way that people’s lives change in an instant. Are you going somewhere soon?

cancerCancer
June 21–July 20
You, too, begin to consider travel, taking time away from home, which, in the past months, has become restrictive and quite a responsibility. Is there a complex problem occurring at home that needs clear thought and action? It would be a good to read Dante’s “Inferno.” It explains life’s wounds and mysteries, visions and transformations with profound insight. This too is your intuitive insight, verbalized.

leoLeo
July 21–August 22
Something you read, study, come across, some words, insights, philosophy, teachings, perhaps a teacher, not like a shadow but a sunbeam, falls across your path and suddenly your entire life is illuminated. Someone is in your life and their acts of service are suddenly recognized, appreciated and acknowledged by you. You realize love’s been there all along. You have been distrustful. Now you’re not.

virgoVirgo
August 23–September 22
Perhaps you’re feeling a bit wounded. There’s something that must be understood at the heart of the matter, meaning within your heart. Are you working too hard or not at all? Are you thinking too much and holding ancient self-criticism? Allow yourself to recognize whom in your world you respect, honor and look up to. Make a list. Then realize we love those we are most like. This revelation allows you a true reflection of self. You are they.

libraLibra
September 23–October 22
You’ve had many experiences in life, multiple relationships, hardships, changes and transformations. In the moment, these can feel at times life threatening. However, as you reflect back, you see how each has strengthened you for where you are now. There’s a state of goodness, an understanding of values, a recognition by others of your abilities. Like Venus (your ruler) rising at dawn to herald the day, you too have become the Morning Star.

scorpioScorpio
October 23–November 21
It seems these days of Scorpio Sun and Venus in Scorpio you are assessing what you value, who you value and why. This is most important because in all Mystery Schools one must begin their studies with the axiom to “Know Thyself.” The stars and planets reach down to us daily, helping us to know ourselves. Some of the signs are able to understand this more easily (you and Pisces). Actually, you’ve become a bit of a Pisces lately.

saggSagittarius
November 22–December 20
You are to go out and about into the community, observing quietly for ways to serve others. It will bring you great enjoyment and benefits and a possibility of meeting someone of great magnetic charisma and power. If you gather up your ideals and apply them to what your community needs, you’ll be surprised to find there’s a great need that only you can fulfill. Have the intention to encourage others and don’t talk about yourself for one week.

capricornCapricorn
December 21–January 20
The holiday season is about to begin. After showing up for charity events and craft fairs displaying your extensive creativity (Taurus ruled, thus extreme beauty), you and loved ones are invited to multiple events. You may not want to attend, feeling a bit overwhelmed with being out in the world, needing to stay behind veils of privacy and protection. This is good, revitalizing, and the appropriate choice especially for the family. Ask, what is best for everyone?

aquariusAquarius
January 21–February 18
New people, events, ideas, places invite you to learn new skills, new ways of being. Perhaps a new (old) career emerges, travel takes precedence, all part of your next developmental stage. Is there a wound about things in form disappearing, dissolving into the great abyss of change? Having less prepares you for more opportunities, more options. More happiness. When you can, call home.

piscesPisces
February 19–March 20
Quietly opportunities arise, to manifest in the New Year. Prepare. Eliminate, clear out, give away what’s not needed. This can be difficult. Often we’re forced. New people, part of the new opportunities occurring next year, are entering your life. Keep in contact, with assuredness and confidence. Travel is probable—here, there, everywhere. You meet a loved one in the middle. The work you will do illuminates. It’s seen and recognized.

We Can Rebuild You

A look back at how downtown Santa Cruz recovered from the 1989 earthquake

International Earth Day—Mother Earth Day

Every April 22, humanity celebrates International Mother Earth Day and Earth Day. As more than a billion people participate in Earth Day activities every year, Earth Day has become the world’s largest civic observance. The massive concern to build right relations between humanity and the living being we call Earth is evidence of humanity’s love of the Mother. In 2009, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed April 22 International Mother Earth Day, with a significant resolution affirming “the interdependence existing among human beings, other living species (the kingdoms—mineral, plant, animal and human) and the planet itself, the Earth which we all inhabit.” The Earth is our home. Celebrating Earth Day helps us define new emerging processes (economic, social, political) focused on the well-being of the kingdoms. Through these, humanity seeks to raise the quality of life, foster equality and begin to establish right relations with the Earth. We dedicate ourselves to bringing forth balance and a relationship of harmony with all of nature. Learn about planting a billion trees (the Canopy Project); participate in 1.5 billion acts of green. Disassociation (toward Earth) is no longer viable. We lose our connection to life itself. Participation is viable—an anchor, refuge and service for all of life on Earth. Visit earthday.org; harmonywithnatureun.org; and un.org/en/events/motherearthday for more information. From Farmers Almanac, “On Earth Day, enjoy the tonic of fresh air, contact with the soil, companionship with nature! Go barefooted. Walk through woods, find wildflowers and green moss. Remain outside, no matter the weather!” Nature, Earth’s most balanced kingdom, heals us. The New Group of World Servers is preparing for the May 3 Wesak Buddha Taurus solar festival. We prepare through asking for and offering forgiveness. Forgiveness purifies and like nature, heals.

If you could live in Santa Cruz in any era besides now, which would you choose?

Probably the ’70s, because Santa Cruz is such a fly-your-freak-flag place. That was when free love and hippiness was in vogue. Shane Reber, Santa Cruz, Caretaker

Sarah’s Vineyard

Sarah’s Vineyard of Gilroy is known for crafting fine wines—and one of my all-time favorites is its Chardonnay. But this time, its Viognier has my vote.
