Uranus Square Pluto

RisaNewS

This Sunday (overshadowing our future) Uranus (revolution) and Pluto (transformation) join together. They will create the same revolutionary demand for freedom as they did in the 1960s. Then, Uranus joined Pluto in Virgo and a new awareness of freedom appeared within humanity. This week Uranus joins (squares) Pluto again. Squares inform humanity new directions must be taken. Our previous directions (ways of life) are no longer available.

The idea of freedom, appearing once again, will this time irreversibly change our world. The 1960s was only a preview. Uranus in Aries brings surprises, a people’s rebellion (Occupy Movement). It quickens Pluto (debt, death) in Capricorn’s breakdown of the social order. Something new (Aries) emerges releasing the powerful destructive/creative force of Pluto. We recapitulate the 1930s economic breakdown and the1960s demands for liberation. We find ourselves “on the razor’s edge.” A new culture must begin. Humanity becomes the leader. Sunday’s Uranus/Pluto’s transit is the first of seven (through 2014, a far-reaching, long-range cycle of change). Uranus/Pluto are concerned with humanity’s evolution and transformation, both are inevitable and necessary. No more waiting. What is no longer useful will be destroyed. What is useful for the new age will remain. The celestial energies will now only support the new (energies, laws and principles). This has great implication personally and globally. Loss of time and control are symptoms of the transformation. There’s no way out but through, together, within community. Here’s a good quote to remember from J.P. Morgan. “Millionaires don’t use astrology. Billionaires do.” Do you?

Esoteric Astrology as News for the week of Jun 21–27, 2012 For Sun and Rising Signs

ariesAries-March 21–April 20

You already know about freedom. In the times to come your individual energy will change. You will seek freedom from and for others, presenting yourself to the world as a paragon of freedom. Be careful that you understand what freedom truly is. It’s sacrifice. It comes from the heart. It’s service to others. It’s a quality of the Soul and Spirit. We are not “free” until we serve.

taurusTaurus April 21–May 21

You have had the sense that it’s your task, divinely inspired, deeply altruistic, to help others as the world changes. You will perform and do your part, stepping up to the plate, by helping to create a template for humanity’s well-being that protects humanity offers refuge. You see the need and become the vital leader in this endeavor. All resourceful and creative people, will you help?

geminiGemini May 22–June 20

You always remain free and independent. Though many think you’re their best friend, you are actually aloof, not allowing yourself to get too close. You have too many ideas and ideals to fit into one group. Compromise is not your main task. Instead you use charm, wit, humor, information. These create a veil between you and others. You display duality. It helps humanity choose.

cancerCancer June 21–July 20

You accomplish your work with creative competence. You laugh at these words. It’s true. So often you hide under your shell. I think you must be studying everything there is to know under that shell. You emerge for a while, provide information needed, and return to the shadows. You’re like a turtle. We found one on the road today. We moved it into the grasses on the other side of the gate. It was grateful. You are the “gate.”

leoLeo July 21–August 22

You must become aware and comfortable, more radical, entering into the new physics, no longer remaining in the old. You are to travel and meet new people who also think in new ways. Everything traditional soon becomes unavailable. The new ideas provide opportunities for your future life and well-being. You never were to accept traditional boundaries and limits. Creativity for you equals true freedom. Are you free yet?

virgoVirgo August 23–September 22

Are you having feelings, ideas or dreams of resurrecting? There’s an inner state of regeneration, death and rebirth occurring in your life. Others will wonder why you’re changing so fast. You have no answers for them. You know it’s the influence of the stars, sun and planets. Be careful of others’ feelings. Don’t be impatient. Stay within a balanced equilibrium. Like Libra tries to with a smile.

libraLibra September 23–October 22

Are you feeling inconsistent, in states of unease and difficulty, rather erratic and changeable? Is your usual charm flagging? No matter, your level of charm never disappears. Your genuine care and concern of others is your keynote. Although you love being in a relationship, at times you need to be alone. In relationships you’re secure when your partner is free. Two free people equal one brilliant secure relationship.

scorpioScorpio October 23–November 21

Whatever daily work you do, a new level of technology and concrete scientific knowledge will enhance it, providing you with more freedom of choice, of time and personal freedom to pursue other interests. Is your work area rather messy? How is your health? Often your research leads to breakthroughs that assist to liberate the life force of others. You do not follow the usual ways of being. Do you need a new computer?

saggSagittarius November 22–December 20

For whatever ails you, you need a childlike sense of play, a self-expression that frees and liberates your happiness. You must also do things quite differently now. Nothing of the old ways will do. Naturally creative, often laughing, quite charming and, at times, crazy and madcap, creating your new world would be quite easy. You need something Broadway, too. Don’t you think? Many follow you. You challenge them.

capricornCapricorn December 21–January 20

You will change the ways you care for and nurture. You will become even more unusual concerning desires and aspirations, already different than most. You know this. On you go into greater levels of independent thinking. Always making Right Choice when information is given. Here’s a prayer you, an invocation. “Let reality govern my every thought and truth be the master of my life.” You will understand your mother’s nurturing.

aquariusAquarius January 21–February 18

Even though others see you as different, eccentric, rather brilliant and quick, you become more so. You will make people laugh more. They will understand your humor and learn from while you integrate new ideas, realities and ways of life. Sometimes you will create in others a sense of puzzlement. Sometimes you will annoy. But always you will be creative, playful and honest. Not boring. We like you.

piscesPisces February 19–March 20

You view resources in a way different than most. You see resources as a way to help humanity create a new way of living. You ask that all things financial be easy and uncomplicated. You do not want to be hindered by material items, not even money. More and more of your possession are being left behind or given away. You seek freedom. You value all that assists humanity. You are one with your group brothers and sisters.

As a millenial to those that forged the path in the 60's: teach us your wisdom, teach us how to create ethical resistance, we have new tools but little sense of place in time- we need elders to offer loving wisdom and truth to counter the tendency for self-created fantasy realms. Teach what you know!

it was difficult to read your column this week....as the 60's and 70's were a time filled with great music that stirred our souls, and echoed through this country with messages of change and spiritual growth. it saddens me to think a small few (most in santa cruz!) and myself were the only ones that heard that music. let's not miss the 'beat' this time round....there are too many of us who stand to lose if we do. stroll on the cliffs and breath in the sweet fragrance of new life coming ashore.

In the 60's & 70's we thought stopping the war would bring about peace... with our young minds and not enough guidance or wisdom being passed on, we failed to fill the void. Now many of the "old hippies" are vegging on TV, depressed and wondering what went wrong with their idealistic lives.... time to turn off the TV, get back on those veggies and come alive. We are the generation that can support and stir the ones who are rebelling right now. We started to change the world, now the time is right to assist with the deeper transformation!

The Peace Equation

Sunday is the United Nations’ International Day of Peace, a global peace-building day when nations, leaders, governments, communities and individuals are invited to end conflict, cease hostilities, creat 24 hours of non-violence and promote goodwill. Monday is Autumn equinox as the Sun enters Libra (right relations with all of life). The Soul Year now begins. We work in the dark part of the year (Persephone underground) preparing for the new light of winter solstice. Tuesday to Wednesday is the Virgo new moon festival. We know two things about peace. “The absence of war does not signify peace.” And “Peace is an ongoing process.” In its peace-building emphasis, the UNIDP, through education, attempts to create a “culture of peace, understanding and tolerance”. Esoterically we are reminded of the peace equation: “Intentions for goodwill (and acting upon this intention) create right relations with all earth’s kingdoms which create (the ongoing process of) peace on earth.” At noon on Sunday, in all time zones, millions of participating groups will observe a moment of silence for peace on earth. Bells will ring, candles will be lit, and doves released as the New Group of World Servers recite the Great Invocation (humanity’s mantram of direction). To connect with others around the world see www.cultureofpeace.org    Let us join together with the mother (Virgo). Goodwill to all, let peace prevail on earth. The dove is the symbol for the day.

Best of Santa Cruz County

The 2013 Santa Cruz County Readers' Poll and Critics’ Picks It’s our biggest issue of the year, and in it, your votes—more than 6,500 of them—determined the winners of The Best of Santa Cruz County Readers’ Poll. New to the long list of local restaurants, shops and other notables that captured your interest: Best Beer Selection, Best Locally Owned Business, Best Customer Service and Best Marijuana Dispensary. In the meantime, many readers were ever so chatty online about potential new categories. Some of the suggestions that stood out: Best Teen Program and Best Web Design/Designer. But what about: Dog Park, Church, Hotel, Local Farm, Therapist (I second that!) or Sports Bar—not to be confused with Bra. Our favorite suggestion: Best Act of Kindness—one reader noted Café Gratitude and the free meals it offered to the Santa Cruz Police Department in the aftermath of recent crimes. Perhaps some of these can be woven into next year’s ballot, so stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy the following pages and take note of our Critics’ Picks, too, beginning on page 91. A big thanks for voting—and for reading—and an even bigger congratulations to all of the winners. Enjoy.  -Greg Archer, EditorBest of Santa Cruz County Readers’ Poll INDEX

Santa Clara Wine Trail

My memories of growing up in England include my mother pouring port after Sunday dinner—and sometimes a glass of sherry before dinner. My family didn’t drink much wine back then, but we certainly made up for it with the port and sherry.
