The Law of Ancient Dominating Good

RisaNewSEsoteric Astrology as News for the week of February 4–10, 2010 For Sun and Rising Signs
Throughout 2009 Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune maintained a close proximity or conjunction in Aquarius, sign of world service and the new culture. It continues to produce noise, messiness, confusion, dissolving away, wounds, chaos and conflict impacting and affecting humanity. Each of the moving planets and their interactions are conveying to Earth a continuous tale of the old ways (Ray 6) dissolving so the new (age, time, cycle, dispensation, Laws & Principles, Ray 7, etc.) can emerge. Daily new realities impel us to change. Eventually as all things break down, we begin to imagine the unimaginable. The Jupiter-Chiron-Neptune in Aquarius—impacting our consciousness, how we live, relate and the future to be—is helping us do just that.  Humanity is turning away from material things and embracing spiritual materialism (sharing). Humanity is learning to radiate Goodwill in order to create Right Relations. These are the promises of Aquarius. From “Esoteric Healing” (p. 29) we read, “… some day the new Law of Ancient Dominating Good which lies behind all that God made will be brought into activity by the spiritual will of man” (humanity, the thinking ones).

Earth’s first Aquarian Age occurred 26,000 years ago (a Platonic year ago). We are speaking here of the alchemy of time—knowledge that time isn’t linear—time is cyclic (circular) and that each “season” of time brings about needed transformations. The ancients knew that what occurs in the heavens (first) is then reflected (as events) on Earth. Time moves in cycles, with each cycle radiating a quality (law, principle, etc.) that creates “events’ that reform, recreate, restore, reconstruct, and reshape our world. We are now entering that time. It is written it will be a Golden Age.

See EA, 546…Pluto, dying of old, creation of new. We can no longer fit into the old paradigms, realities, etc. Will, divinely expressed, is the theme of the coming world religion, and the impulse behind philanthropy. Love, however, has never been expressed.

Aries-March 21–April 20
Have you noticed you’re dreaming more often? Are you feeling more intuitive, sensitive? Inspired and insightful? Prayer, meditation, study, retreats all are good for you at this time, allowing more gentleness to emerge providing you with compassionate caring. These help when you’re placed within an Aquarian group, asked to be the leader and invited to visit the future. The world is within you.

Taurus April 21–May 21
You have one talk - to focus on health, tend to your bones, take more calcium and magnesium, not let yourself get cold. You must use your pragmatism to care for yourself with greater concern. As your social life becomes more demanding you will also have to weigh what’s best—to be out and about, leading everyone into the future, or to stay at home nursing your physical body back to perfect health. Use Benedictine tinctures.

Gemini May 22–June 20
Something beneficent, benevolent and bountiful happens between you and the world, between you and your work and profession. You’re inspired, encouraged and guided internally. With careful study, years of preparation, and viewing the past in terms of your great and wonderful gifts, pathways open, choices and commitments are made, and abundance settles into your heart. Interesting times for you.

Cancer June 21–July 20
A new and different study has been introduced and you’re quite fascinated. It makes you feel generous and for the first time in a long time, you feel at home. There’s a new exploration into a culture or a time or a reality that was unknown to you. Now it’s presenting itself and you in turn are participating fully. This changes your inner life. You are happy.

Leo July 21–August 22
Watch as you see yourself becoming more perceptive and wise, more intuitive and enlightened in terms of others, especially those you work with. Someone or something or some words will assist you in a shift into greater and deeper awareness of spiritual realities. This comes through intimacy, money, resources and/or dreams. Love is good. Bring it into the light. Tend to taxes.

Virgo August 23–September 22
You will relate better and better with others, especially those close to you. They will bloom and flourish, increase, thrive and prosper. Then you will find yourself a greater support to others, giving guidance where needed. Challenge nothing and no one. Offer compassionate understanding instead. It will nourish your heart.

Libra September 23–October 22
Think about what you want to be doing daily … what job, career, occupation, work, artistry, vocation you truly and deeply need to pursue. If you don’t know, ask yourself. The information will subtly appear. Talk to everyone about your hopes, dreams and wishes. In the coming year your health greatly improves, you become stronger and more resilient. Have a salad with each meal. And have a bird, a cat or a fish for a pet.

Scorpio October 23–November 21
Don’t go down the road of regular investments thinking you’re lucky and the economy will improve soon. Don’t take risks with your money and resources. Instead begin serious preparation for a new economy to unfold looking much different than what we’re used to. Don’t speculate. Instead study books on greenhouses and bio shelters and use your resources to create these environments. We haven’t much time left.

Sagittarius November 22–December 20
So many different ideas flow through your mind. Perhaps you’re thinking of moving far away. Perhaps it’s to return home. You always want a place near a body of water. There is a benevolence occurring in your home and family life now. Interest in genealogy, your family tree, relatives and loved ones may take center stage. This nourishes you till the next phase of personal development appears. Things are happening.

Capricorn December 21–January 20
Notice in the next five months your thinking becomes happy, optimistic and makes sense of previous life questions and behaviors of others. You will shift from vague criticism and cynicisms to realizing intentions for goodwill bring grace to all interactions. You’ll realize everyone’s doing their very best and then help others who’ve lost their way. Begin writing (journaling, blogging) in earnest. You have something important to say.

Aquarius January 21–February 18
This coming year will be lucrative for you and money and resources will be available as never before. That means more attention to the well-being of your finances. Use resources to help others. Pay all debts, including credit cards. You don’t want to owe money to anyone. Don’t loan to friends and figure out where to put your money should the dollar fail. That’s a serious situation to consider.

Pisces February 19–March 20
They say that good fortune, sunshine, blessings, grace and beauty will follow you this year. It’s said that self-confidence and a new sense of self-identity will flourish. In the meantime, maintain all responsibilities and obligations, tithe generously and consistently, and be careful with what you eat. Jupiter expands us in every which way.

I Was a Teenage Deadhead

Memories of life on tour, plus the truth about that legendary Santa Cruz Acid Test

I Build a Lighted House and Therein Dwell

Wednesday, June 24, Chiron turns stationary retrograde (we turn inward) at 21.33 degrees Pisces. We usually speak of “retrograde” when referring to Mercury. But all planets retrograde. Next month in July, Venus retrogrades. What is Chiron retrograde? Chiron represents the wound within all of us. Wounds have purpose. They sensitize us; make us aware of pain and suffering. Through our wounds we develop compassion. Through compassion we become whole (holy) again. Chiron helps develop these states of consciousness. Everyone carries a wound. Everyone carries family wounds (family astrology tracks the astrological “DNA” through generations). Chiron wounds are deep within. We’re often not aware of them until Chiron retrogrades. Then the wounds (through pain, hurt, sadness, suffering) become apparent. They seem to break us open emotionally, psychologically. Painful events from the past are remembered. They are brought to the present for healing. Through experiencing, talking about and deeply feeling what is hurting us, healing takes place. We begin to understand and bring healing to others. All week, Jupiter and Venus move closer together in the sky. They meet in Leo at the full moon, Cancer solar festival, on Wednesday, July 1. The Cancer keynote is, “I build a lighted house and therein dwell.” The soul’s light has finally penetrated the “womb” of matter. The New Group of World Servers is to radiate this light. At the end of each sign are keywords to use and remember during the Chiron retrograde.

Kickin' Chicken

Local kitchen alchemist Justin Williams is fast becoming a cult flavor master. His late-night wizardry, which began last fall delivering mainly to starving UCSC students, is catching on with taste buds beyond campus. Kickin’ Chicken delivers its spicy-sweet fried chicken and waffles to Westside residents between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. nightly. Or you can catch him and his brother and sister, Candice and Danny Mendoza, serving it up at their “Sunday Mass” at the Santa Cruz Food Lounge at 1001 Center St. in Santa Cruz. Using sous vide, a French method of cooking chicken in a water bath at a tightly controlled temperature, they then flash fry it for an amazingly crispy coat. Candice Mendoza spoke to GT about Kickin’ Chicken’s rise.

Pelican Ranch Winery

The most popular red wines found on store shelves are also those most commonly known, such as Pinot, Zinfandel and Merlot. But when you come across a more unusual varietal, like Pelican Ranch Winery’s Cinsault ($19), it opens up a whole new world. Cinsault is a grape that can tolerate heat, so it is found in countries with warmer climes such as Morocco, Algeria, Lebanon, and France. It’s rare in California but grows well in places like Lodi—Silvaspoons Vineyard in this particular case—where it’s hot and dry. Often used as a blending grape, the silky Cinsault is just fine on its own.
