The New Group of World Servers

RisaNewSDaylight Savings Time begins Sunday morning, 2 am, Monday is Pisces new moon (25 degrees), and St. Patrick’s Day is Wednesday. We’re less than two weeks from Spring equinox. However, I hear in Tennessee the robins have returned so they think it’s already spring. Every month esoteric groups worldwide observe new and full moon times with prayer and meditation. They invoke (call forth) and receive the concentrated light (Pisces this month) from the Sun and moon and radiate that light into the world (into humanity and earth’s kingdoms). The new moon theme is always to “Strengthen the hands (work, activities, intentions, resources) of the New Group of World Servers (NGWS)” –men and women of Goodwill working for equality of opportunity, justice, inclusiveness and right relations for all of humanity. Many work unrecognized. Their intention is to meet the needs of humanity and all living creatures through understanding the inter-relationships (Life Principle, Monad) existing among all kingdoms (mineral, plant, animal, human, Soul, Hierarchy, Shamballa). The NGWS functions worldwide and in every field of endeavor and everyone is invited to join. During new and full moon times, the energy of Love, Light, Will, Wisdom and Intelligence are available for distribution. It is the task of the NGWS, in service during these times, to receive and radiate these energies, translated as Goodwill, to Earth. Through the radiations of Goodwill life itself is uplifted. It is Goodwill that produces the needed Right Relations creating what humanity longs for—Peace on Earth. The new and full moon rituals (ritual, Ray 7, anchors spiritual energies) form the foundation for the new world religion in the Aquarian Age. During Pisces we discuss these things as we prepare for the initiating and fiery new life of Aries.

Esoteric Astrology as News for the week of Mar 11–Mar 17, 20 For Sun and Rising Signs

ariesAries-March 21–April 20
Often your compassion/sympathy is well hidden that many think you don’t possess these virtues. You do, however it takes tremendous effort to bring these forth (which will occur this month). No longer can you draw the curtain on spiritual realities. No longer will we think you don’t have tender feelings. No longer can you believe they interfere with daily life. Feelings and spiritual realities are actually guideposts and your protective lucky charms.

taurusTaurus
April 21–May 21
It’s important to begin assessing goals, hopes and wishes for the future. As you do this, others are reaching out to you from groups and organizations asking for your professional sense, understanding and direction. Nurturing and strengthening ties within your group is a task only you can do at this time. The group needs nurturing. Can you step into these shoes?

geminiGemini
May 22–June 20
There’s a continued assessment concerning your work in the world and how you’re recognized. A new vitality emerges concerning your labors and how you see your potential coming forth. Why not make a list of everything you can do. Then list all that you hope to do and then how you hope to serve others. These lists point out a theme that creates deeper self-identity. How do you want to be remembered? And what do you idealize?

cancerCancer
June 21–July 20
When I graduated I was asked by my professor to write a paper on altruism. That word has appeared in my life in the most unexpected times and places. I would suggest you research and write a short paper on altruism. It’s responsible for creating new philosophical ideas, attitudes and visions in your life from now on. Your mind is traveling far distances. Perhaps to the Wesak Valley in the Himalayas.

leoLeo
July 21–August 22
You will be thinking of new endeavors, challenges, and how to best use resources. Notice intuition and perception are very strong at this time. If you tune in quietly within you’ll know who is thinking of and loving you. Concern about resources continues. However, in the long run this concern will evaporate. Did you expect something that didn’t occur? Is there disappointment?

virgoVirgo
August 23–September 22
Are you being diplomatic, re-defining relationships and sharing more? Someone significant is either in need or you need them. Do you feel there is a lack of support? If so, begin to support others and that which you give is returned. Be truly gracious. Don’t put on an act or act in a way that you think you should. Learn how to be authentically gracious. It has to do with the heart.

libraLibra
September 23–October 22
It will be time this week to get down to business, be practical each moment and establish routines that will handle the detail of a great change occurring in your life. Attempt to work with enthusiasm, summon efficiency and organization, ask for assistance (from humans and angels), eliminate everything not needed and make health and well-being your priority.

scorpioScorpio
October 23–November 21
You need some just-for-fun endeavors, things playful yet intense. You also need something calling forth your creative gifts. Only when creativity is involved are you truly pleased as you consider your impact on the world. This allows you to be brave and bold and always rebuilding your self-identity and confidence. You’ll express yourself this week and next and all the weeks thereafter.

saggSagittarius
November 22–December 20
Are you paying attention to what your feelings and intuitions are telling you? Are you assessing what you consider as safety and security? Are you stirring up activity at home, leaving home, seeking home, or needing a home? What are your support systems? Everything that leads to re-organization is or will be occurring. Family is involved, too. How?

capricornCapricorn
December 21–January 20
If you’re feeling frustrated concerning creative endeavors, children, loved ones and intimates, this will pass. You could feel the need to be highly creative to offset disappointments. You dream of things so significant they have a hard time manifesting. Over time they actually will. You might be sacrificing for your children and feel confused. Express your feelings in a neutral tone. Ask everyone to listen without judgment.

aquariusAquarius
January 21–February 18
Ease in public and social situations is felt this month. Tend carefully and with detail to daily life tasks. When you’re at ease with yourself a rapport with others develops spontaneously. Walk through neighborhoods, stroll down the middle of town, make phone calls, tend to bills and monetary responsibilities, be alert, gracious and communicative. And realize with gratitude all that you value surrounds and serves you.

piscesPisces
February 19–March 20
You’re wondering how to look and express yourself differently as well as define and present your authenticity. It’s important for you to be both strong and kind, to seek understanding and harmony with others and for your actions to be understood and not misinterpreted. Often you dream your way through life. You long to learn self- confidence and self-realization. Over time this occurs. Be brave.

The Thought Form of Solution

It’s our last week of Leo before the sun enters Virgo (next Friday/Saturday). The planets this week make complex patterns and relationships (vibrational cadences and rhythms) with the outer planets, mainly Neptune—the planet that veils, obscures, protects and finally refines us. Neptune offers us entrance into a deeply spiritual sense of comfort and solace. Neptune is the personality ruler of Pisces (saviors of the world) and soul ruler of Cancer (world mother). “The fish goddesses who leapt from earth (Virgo) to water (Pisces) unitedly give birth to the Fish God (Christ, the Soul) who introduces the waters of life  (Neptune & Aquarius) into the ocean of substance (matter, mother bringing light to the world. Thus does Neptune work.” (Esoteric Astrology).

Best of Santa Cruz County

The 2013 Santa Cruz County Readers' Poll and Critics’ Picks It’s our biggest issue of the year, and in it, your votes—more than 6,500 of them—determined the winners of The Best of Santa Cruz County Readers’ Poll. New to the long list of local restaurants, shops and other notables that captured your interest: Best Beer Selection, Best Locally Owned Business, Best Customer Service and Best Marijuana Dispensary. In the meantime, many readers were ever so chatty online about potential new categories. Some of the suggestions that stood out: Best Teen Program and Best Web Design/Designer. But what about: Dog Park, Church, Hotel, Local Farm, Therapist (I second that!) or Sports Bar—not to be confused with Bra. Our favorite suggestion: Best Act of Kindness—one reader noted Café Gratitude and the free meals it offered to the Santa Cruz Police Department in the aftermath of recent crimes. Perhaps some of these can be woven into next year’s ballot, so stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy the following pages and take note of our Critics’ Picks, too, beginning on page 91. A big thanks for voting—and for reading—and an even bigger congratulations to all of the winners. Enjoy.  -Greg Archer, EditorBest of Santa Cruz County Readers’ Poll INDEX

Have Mercy!

Looking for a frisky summer wine at a reasonable price? Look no further than Mercy Vineyards’ 2013 Sauvignon Blanc ($20). Richly textured “with an exotic flavor profile,” the wine reveals aromas of honeydew melon and honeysuckle, with anise appearing as a star attraction. Smidgeons of pineapple and honeycomb add a touch of sexiness to this well-balanced, easy-drinking wine, which pairs well with a variety of cuisine —especially ceviche, calamari and other not-too-heavy foods.
