In the wake of Gustav, this brash and timely documentary explores the impact of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans, from the insiders' viewpoint of two survivors. Shot by Carl Deal and Tia Lessin, its focus is not the storm itself, or the government's extraordinary mishandling of the crisis, but aspiring rap singer Kimberly Rivers Roberts and her husband Scott Roberts; trapped in the city by rising floodwaters, and too poor to get out, the intrepid couple had the presence of mind to shoot video footage of their experiences as they worked to keep their neighbors and each other safe. A crowd-pleaser at the Sundance and Full Frame film festivals, it explores a tragic story with compassion, grit, humor, and original rap tunes.
